Taiwan and Belize have signed an agreement to cooperate in efforts to prevent human trafficking.
Belize is the ninth country to agree to cooperate with Taiwan in the fight against human trafficking. Taiwan has also signed similar agreements with Mongolia, Honduras, Indonesia, Vietnam, Paraguay, Gambia, the United States, and the Solomon Islands.
Interior Minister Chen Wei-jen and Belizean immigration minister Godwin Hulse signed the agreement. Chen said that it is impossible for a single country to put an end to human trafficking on its own. He said that in order to put a stop to human trafficking, it is important to work with other countries and build a mechanism for international cooperation.
Chen also said that Taiwan has been among the countries that have received top marks on the annual US report on efforts to combat human trafficking for each of the past five years. He said that South Korea is the only other Asian country to have received such high marks on the annual report’s evaluation.
