Senior politician Chen Kuei-miao, who help found the minor pro-China New Party in 1993, has died at the age of 81.
Chen was surrounded by his family when he died. The New Party expended its condolences to his family. Chen was a former lawmaker and acting mayor of Tainan City in the 1990s. He helped found the New Party, which broke away from the Kuomintang in opposition to the ruling style of former Kuomintang chairman and then-Taiwanese President Lee Teng-hui.
