Taiwan’s sports stars take the Ice Bucket Challenge
ALS ice bucket challenge

Two Taiwanese sports stars took part in the popular Ice Bucket Challenge campaign on Monday to raise awareness about the paralyzing disease ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease. The challenge is to have a bucket of ice water poured on them or donate US$100 to an ALS charity, or opt to do both. When people choose to do so, they can also challenge three others to do the same within 24 hours.

Taiwanese tennis ace Lu Yen-hsun poured a bucket of water with ice cubes over himself in a bathtub. Lu donated US$100 and said the idea is creative and fun and everyone should do it because it’s a good cause and it will help ALS patients in Taiwan.

Taiwanese-American basketball star Jeremy Lin chose to be tossed into the ocean from a beach.

Both Lu and Lin posted the videos of them accepting the challenge on their Facebook pages.

The Ice Bucket Challenge became popular this summer in the US and, now in Taiwan, prominent politicians, business leaders and celebrities are joining the campaign.
