Taipei Deputy Mayor Chen Hsiung-wen has been named the new labor minister. That’s the word from the Cabinet on Wednesday.
Chen has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and a master’s degree in environmental engineering from National Cheng Kung University. He is considered an expert in environmental pollution control and industrial policy planning. Prior to becoming deputy mayor, he had served in several posts at the Cabinet-level Environmental Protection Administration.
Chen was also the commissioner of the Taipei City Department of Economic Development. He is best known for planning and running the 2010 Taipei International Flora Expo during his term as commissioner of the department.
The Cabinet said that it is confident Chen will be able to make significant contributions to the nation’s labor policies in the future.
