The Central Election Commission has revealed new details about the upcoming municipal elections.
In an official announcement released Thursday, the commission predicted that more than 20,000 candidates will run for positions in local governments around the country. According to the announcement, the candidates will be vying for around 11,000 positions. The positions fall into nine different categories, ranging from mayors and county heads to city councilors and heads of aboriginal districts.
Acting Chairman of the commission Liu I-chou said Thursday that these elections will be the most complex ever conducted in Taiwan’s history. The elections are scheduled for November 29.
