Tainan and Kaohsiung celebrated National Day with a flag-raising ceremony on Thursday, symbolizing national pride and unity, especially in the aftermath of Typhoon Krathon.

Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) led the event at the Siwei Administrative Center. The theme, “Toward a Future that Shines Because of You,” brought together politicians from different parties. Chen highlighted the city's resilience in the face of Typhoon Krathon, praising citizens and officials for their swift recovery efforts. He emphasized the strength and solidarity demonstrated by Kaohsiung residents in protecting their homes and community.

Kaohsiung City Hall is currently displaying what is reportedly the largest national flag among all Taiwanese cities and counties. This grand display represents the city’s determination against adversity. Mayor Chen also called on citizens to continue embodying the indomitable spirit as they work together to build a better future.

Meanwhile in Tainan, Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) presided over the flag-raising ceremony at the Tainan City Government Civic Center’s Siraya Plaza. Huang noted that Tainan has hosted these ceremonies for as long as it has been designated a special municipality. He also addressed recent challenges posed by Typhoon Krathon, stressing the importance of thorough preparation and collaborative efforts in safeguarding the city as it progresses toward modernization.
