Taiwan’s export value for August hit a record at over US$ 31 billion. That’s a record high for a month’s exports and marks 8.3% growth over last year. Premier Su Tseng-chang highlighted the government’s achievements at a report at the legislature on Tuesday.

The first half of the year saw a big drop in GDP to 0.78% growth. But Taiwan is the only one of the four Asian tigers to see positive growth this year. The premier said Taiwan’s economy has been stable throughout the pandemic and the stock market has been able to see a value of over 10,000 over a period of 1,000 days.

He also said that there are already over 31 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the world and nearly 1 million deaths. The global pandemic does not seem to be slowing down.  He said during this time, Taiwan has been able to contain the coronavirus well and this has enabled people to live their lives.

The report said that though Taiwan is small, it is strong and resilient. The government wants to use this opportunity to help Taiwan transform itself and to continue to play a unique role in the world.
