Finance Minister Su Jain-rong says the National Stabilization Fund Committee will call a meeting in mid-October to decide whether the government should activate the fund amid market uncertainty. Su was speaking Thursday at the Legislature.
The local stock market has been affected by fluctuations in US share prices, triggered by rising tensions in the Taiwan Strait and the upcoming US election.
On Thursday, the TAIEX dropped 319.50 points, or 2.54%, to close at 12,264.38.
Su said that even though share prices have slid over the past two days, momentum remains as recent turnover, including OTC stocks, amounted to NT$250 billion (US$8.3 billion) per day.
