The youngest Taiwanese female shooter attending the 2024 Paris Olympics is Olympic newcomer and 21-year-old Liu Heng-yu (劉恆妤). A total of eight Taiwanese shooters will attend the 2024 Paris Olympics, including two men and six women.

Liu participated in the 2023 International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup in Jakarta at 19 years old, bringing home a bronze medal in the individual 10-meter air pistol event, the first world cup title of her athletic career. Last year she also took home a bronze medal in the team 10-meter air pistol event after competing in the Asian Games in Hangzhou.

Liu did not begin formal shooting training until high school, but her coach Chen Chiu-yen (陳秋燕) commented that Liu is a high-spirited and big-hearted athlete who is clear about her goals and is not afraid of the big stage.

Liu commented that she sees the hiccups and challenges she has encountered along the way as fuel for her growth and progress. She says that when she started her shooting journey her dream was to reach the Olympics. Now that she gets to wear the national Olympic team jersey for the first time, her next goal is to place in the Olympics.

Liu left the ISSF World Cup in Munich finals early last month due to minor setbacks, so her training leading up to the games will include system-specific drills and strengthening basic skills. Chen says she hopes this training regimen will gradually get her in Olympic condition.
