Shooter and “ID Girl” Wu Chia-ying (吳佳穎) will make her third Olympic appearance at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games. Wu is aiming to secure a medal for Taiwan after narrowly missing the mark at the Tokyo Olympics, where she placed fifth.
Fans say Wu’s ID photo from the 2011 Shenzhen Universiade competition caught their attention due to her cute and sweet appearance. She has since been known as “ID Girl.”
Wu saw significant success in shooting in 2014 as she earned a silver medal at the Asian Shooting Championships in Kuwait, a silver medal at the Incheon Asian Games, and a bronze medal at the 2014 ISSF Shooting World Championships in Granada.
At her first Olympics in Rio 2016, Wu placed 19th in the 10-meter air pistol and 27th in 25-meter pistol events. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Wu placed 14th in the 10-meter air pistol and 5th in the 25-meter pistol events.
Entering her third Olympics, Wu says the training over the past ten years has remained the same, and that as with any other competition she will face every challenge head-on and continue working hard.
Taiwan has yet to win an Olympic medal in shooting. If Wu continues with the same momentum as the past two Olympics and manages to secure a medal, she could become the first to do so for Taiwan.
