Taiwan thanked the U.S. government on Tuesday for adhering to their commitments to bolster the island nation’s defense with their recent approval for a military equipment and services sale. The U.S. State Department approved the sale of the return, repair, and reshipment of aircraft spare parts and related equipment to Taiwan valued at approximately US$228 million.
According to the Foreign Ministry’s press release, this is the 16th military sale announcement to Taiwan since President Biden took office. It acknowledged the U.S. government's continued commitment to Taiwan's defense under the Taiwan Relations Act and the Six Assurances and to upholding peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
The Ministry reaffirmed Taiwan’s resolve to counter China’s gray-zone tactics in its press release. It said that Taiwan remains dedicated to improving its self-defense and asymmetric warfare capabilities while protecting its democratic values and way of life. It adds Taiwan will continue to deepen its security partnership with the U.S., jointly uphold a rules-based international order, and promote peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and the Indo-Pacific region.
